Sustainability and Impact of Funding Initiatives for International Postdocs – Effects on Individuals, Institutions and Society

Projekt aim

What individual, institutional and societal effects do fellowship programmes for internationally mobile researchers have after their doctorate and how sustainable are they? In order to investigate these questions comprehensively, the programme modes "Incoming", "Outgoing" and "Capacity Building", which are offered by two research funding institutions in Germany - the Volkswagen Foundation and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (AvH Foundation) - for the promotion of long-term stays abroad by postdocs, will be explored.

Scientific publishing without gatekeeping – A scientific analysis of the new publishing model of eLife

Background

The journal eLife (Cambridge, UK) has fundamentally changed its publication model from this year (Jan. 31, 2023). It has decided to publish all submitted manuscripts that are available on a preprint server and have undergone a peer review process by eLife. Final acceptance and rejection decisions based on peer review are replaced by review reports and comments by the reviewers, which are published together with the manuscript.

Aims of the research project

The new publication model is to be scientifically analyzed. Thus, the inter-rater reliability, the predictive validity and the fairness / bias of the evaluations of the reviewers and the editors will be investigated.
