Dr. Andreas Walther is a senior researcher for science and teaching at the Department of Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy of the University of Zurich and also works as a clinical psychotherapist (i.t.) at the outpatient clinic for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Behavioral Medicine of the Psychotherapeutic Centre of the University of Zurich. As a result of his studies and commitment to improving men's mental health, Dr. Walther serves as a Consulting Editor for the prestigious scientific journal Psychology of Men and Masculinities (APA). Also, he became a member of the Task Force on Men's Mental Health of the World Federation of Societies of Biological Psychiatry and publishes with many international colleagues on the topic of men's mental health. Dr. Walther's goal is to establish multimodal therapies for depression specifically tailored to men. Both pharmacological approaches (such as testosterone therapy) and male-specific psychotherapy concepts are being systematically evaluated for improved treatment effectiveness in depression in men. Early detection of depressive syndromes in men is a central goal, which is additionally pursued by means of new psychometric instruments and neurobiological methods. The aim is to identify men with depression at an early stage and to offer tailored therapies before depressive disorders become chronic or lead to comorbid alcohol use disorders or suicide.
