Bachelor Students

As a first step before starting your bachelor's thesis, have a look at «What is a good Bachelor's Thesis». You can find more information below. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your supervisor!

General Information

General information on the Bachelor of Science in Psychology program can be found on the Department of Psychology’s website.

All the information on writing a bachelor thesis at the Psychological Insitute of the UZH can be found here.

Organization & Communication

At the start of your bachelor thesis, you have to create a channel in the MethLab MS Teams for your bachelor thesis.

All project-specific communication should take place in the MS Teams channel. You can store all documents and presentations which you'd like to share with your supervisor(s) on this channel as well.

Meetings

There are no mandatory group meetings for bachelor students. However, if you're interested, you are more than welcome to attend any or all of the MethLab team meetings. Here you can find an overview of all MethLab meetings.

Supervision

MethLab bachelor students are entitled to supervisory meetings by their direct supervisors. However, you are responsible for scheduling these meetings with your supervisor.

Bachelor Thesis Formal Requirements / Style Sheet

Find the UZH regulations for formal requirements of bachelor theses here.

Scope
The scope of the bachelor thesis is to be determined with the supervisor, usually in a range from 20 to 30 pages.

Citation
According to the UZH guidelines, correct citation is in accordance with the current APA guidelines. However, in the MethLab you are quite free regarding this as long as you use some common sense. You may use MS Word, Latex or even Google Docs to write your thesis with APA style or alternative approaches. Just make sure to discuss this with your supervisor.

Declaration of Independence
Do not forget to insert the declaration of independence with scanned signature at the end of the document. Here you can find the template.

Bachelor Thesis Deadlines & Submission

The first meeting for your bachelor thesis is about four weeks after the start of the semester. For this meeting you should search for and read some literature, based on the examplary literature from your supervisor. Additionally, you should create a provisional table of contents. Set the date with your supervisor and send an overview of your literature and the table of contents to your supervisor at least three days in advance.

Deadlines for the first meeting:

Autumn semester: Middle/End of October (four weeks after semester start)
Spring semester: Middle/End of March (four weeks after semester start)

If you would like to get some preliminary feedback on the entire thesis, you can schedule an earlier date of submission (about one month before submission deadline) for a first version of your thesis with your supervisor.

Deadline for submitting the bachelor thesis to the supervisor:

Autumn semester: 1st of January
Spring semester: 1st of June
