Labeling in visual working memory

People are exposed to visual inputs every day. Furthermore, people are also confronted with descriptions of their visual surrounding, for instance: “this is a yellow banana”. The influence of such verbal labels on the processing, maintenance, and retrieval of visual information from working memory is unknown. Working memory is important for the short-term maintenance of information and has a limited capacity. In this project we investigate whether the combination of visual and verbal inputs is helpful, harmful or inconsequential to working memory performance.
